FREE WORKSHOPS!
Prism’s SHARP Access Project will be delivering monthly Trans & LGB (Lesbian, Gay, Bi) core competency workshops for individuals working in housing and residential mental health and addiction settings.
We will be offering:
An Introduction to Working with Trans Clients in Housing and Residential Settings on:
- May 17th from 1:00 -4:30 pm
- June 28th from 1:00 -4:30 pm
An Introduction to Working with Lesbian, Gay and Bi Clients in Housing and Residential Settings on:
- June 16th from 9:00 am -12:30
All workshops will take place in the auditorium at the Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addictions, 3405 Willingdon Ave. Burnaby, BC. Dates for July and beyond will be circulated in early June.
These workshops will address core competency issues in working with LGBT populations, such as barriers to accessing services, LGBT-specific issues to consider in housing, mental health and addiction issues, and providing recommendations for improving service provision and developing LGBT-specific policies at agencies.
The SHARP (Shelter, Housing And Residential Program) Access Project is a partnership between Vancouver Coastal Health’s Prism Alcohol and Drug Services and the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, and is funded through Service Canada’s Homelessness Partnership Initiative. Its aim is to improve access for LGBT2S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Two Spirit) people to shelters, housing programs, and mental health and addiction services that have a residential component.
The workshops are offered free of charge and are open to anyone working, volunteering, or studying in the social services field. The SHARP (Shelter, Housing And Residential Program) Access Project is a partnership between Vancouver Coastal Health’s Prism Alcohol and Drug Services and the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, and is funded through Service Canada. The SHARP Access Project Team comprises staff and peer facilitators that have had direct experience with residential mental health and addiction services. Each member of the SHARP Access Project is part of the LGBT communities, or is an ally. The Project’s aim is to improve access for LGBT2S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender and Two Spirit) people to shelters, housing programs, and mental health and addiction services that have a residential component.
