This course stresses planning for both long-term and routine maintenance tasks. This full-day workshop gives you the tools and techniques required to plan and manage unit inspections, servicing, cleaning, and maintenance contracts. We will also discuss replacement reserves, evaluating bids, and the importance of keeping good records.

W4: Gaining Community Acceptance
Often, when planning or building a new development, non-profit housing providers run into opposition from the neighbourhood. This opposition is usually characterized as a “not in my backyard” (NIMBY) attitude. In this workshop, we will use the metaphor of an iceberg to explore the many layers of this NIMBY response, and share specific planning methods and strategies to increase community acceptance.

W5: Beyond Bake Sales: Generating Revenue in the 21st Century
In this workshop, we’ll explore ways of cultivating new revenue sources. After the workshop, you’ll be able to:
- Differentiate between fundraising and revenue generation;
- Develop your organization’s “brand”;
- Design and initiate a revenue-enhancement plan;
- Assess whether social enterprise is right for your organization; and
- Evaluate your revenue-generation strategy.

W6: Introduction to Collaborative Conflict Resolution

W7: Intermediate Techniques in Conflict Resolution
In addition to exploring conflict-resolution techniques and theory in more detail, this workshop provides participants with an opportunity to improve their conflict-resolution proficiency by participating in brief simulated role plays. Grounded in a safe and supportive workshop environment, participants will also have an opportunity to share their peer-coaching insights in small group settings.
