T6: Innovation and Best Practices in Housing and Supporting Youth

Youth represent 30 percent of Canada’s homeless. Unless effective interventions are implemented, today’s homeless youth are at significant risk of becoming tomorrow’s homeless adults. This session will provide an overall example of innovative housing-support models that the Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) has developed as their best practices. Learn about what has and has not worked.

T7: Do-It-Yourself Maintenance – Tips and Tools of the Trade

This session will take a problem-solving approach to help hands-on maintenance staff, caretakers, and field staff to do their jobs more effectively. The instructor will focus on trouble-shooting common maintenance problems – such as plumbing, electrical, and appliances. Attendees will learn about the correct tools to use for each job, plus time- and cost-saving tips.

A panel of shelter operators will discuss innovative and effective practices developed by shelters in British Columbia.
